Carl Brian Pregler

Brian was raised in Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, where he graduated from Terry Fox Senior High. He attained a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Alberta, and then moved to Ontario to complete his education, getting a law degree from Osgoode Hall and MBA from the Schulich School of Business. Brian spent nearly 20 years in Toronto in the corporate world, primarily in financial services, before relocating to Muskoka to practice law. Brian is an active member of the Rotary Club of Gravenhurst and is slated to be the Club’s President in 2024-2025.

Valerie J. Tingey (providing legal services in association with Pregler Law)
Barrister, Solicitor, Family Law Mediator

Raised in rural Muskoka, Valerie’s public school education was completed in Muskoka, followed by her undergraduate degree in Law and Justice, from Laurentian University, in 1986. She graduated from Windsor Law in 1989, then worked as a summer student, and later completed her articles with Beard Winter, in Toronto. Valerie was called to the Bar in 1991 in Toronto. After working a number of years away from Muskoka, Valerie opened this office in Gravenhurst in 2008, focussing initially on Family Law. Soon, the needs of the community lead to an expansion of her practice to include Real Estate law and Wills and Estate Administration.

Very much involved with her community, Valerie was the President of the Muskoka Law Association for a number of years, an avid South Muskoka Minor Hockey mom and the Treasurer on the Board of Directors for the Lake Country Community Legal Clinic for 9 years. She continues to be a member of the Gravenhurst Chamber of Commerce. Raising money for cancer research has been a focus for Valerie over the last 2 decades, having been a past participant/guest speaker in the Muskoka Relay for Life, volunteer/guest speaker at the Bracebridge Run for the Cure, Run Day Program Co-ordinator for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation’s CIBC Bracebridge Run For The Cure in 2013, and has participated in the Toronto One Walk to Cure Cancer multiple times. Continued fundraising efforts are planned for the future.


Lou Scanlon
Real Estate Clerk

Lou was born and raised in a suburb of Toronto, the youngest of six children. Lou came to Muskoka in 1995, employed as Legal Assistant to her sister, Muskoka lawyer, Judith Stephenson (now retired). Lou has nearly 40 years of highly skilled experience in Administration and Legal fields, including Family Law, Corporate, Wills and Estates and primarily most recently, Real Estate Law. Her focus in our office is currently Real Estate Law.

Lou is a mother of two grown children and is thankful to have raised her children in beautiful Muskoka. As a child, Lou was a member of several service organizations, namely, Explorers, C.G.I.T. and Girl Guides and continued her membership as an adult as a Sparks and Girl Guide leader. A woman of great faith, Lou has been a Senior Soldier for the Salvation Army (Bracebridge Corps) since 2006 and served for eight years as a local officer, in the position of Corps Treasurer. She is passionate about music and plays a little piano. Lou looks forward to a continued rewarding and enriching experience with her colleagues in the legal profession.


Lynn Blackwell
Family Law and Real Estate Clerk

Lynn was born in Germany and was the third child in her family born outside Canada while her father was proudly serving in the Canadian Armed Forces, over 32 years. Her family settled in Lisle, ON.

Lynn graduated from the University of Waterloo with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology with a Legal Studies Option. She later received her Law Clerk Diploma from Seneca College with high honours. She was a member of the Seneca Scouts fastball team (Ontario Champions), served three terms on Student Council and was nominated as her graduating class Valedictorian.

Lynn has been a resident of Bracebridge since 1998. She loves playing fastball and has been a member of the Muskoka Ladies Softball League since 1998. She loves spending time with her husband and their four cats and reading mystery novels. Lynn has been a Law Clerk since 1989 and has experience in civil, criminal, municipal, real estate and family law. Her primary focus at our firm is Family Law.


Meaghan O’Neill
Wills and Estates Clerk

Meaghan was born in Kirkland Lake, but has lived in Muskoka for the past 25 years, 9 of them with her partner.
She has a young, adventurous son and a handsome 60 pound mix dog. In her spare time, she enjoys backpacking, music and exploring the outdoors. She is working diligently to complete all four Institute of Law Clerks by July 2022.


Sara Cruickshank
Real Estate Clerk

Sara was born in Markham/Stouffville and grew up in many different towns and cities across Southern Ontario, with her feet now firmly planted in Muskoka. She completed her Law Clerk Diploma at Georgian College with honours in 2020 and has worked passionately in the real estate field ever since. Sara enjoys her free time exploring with her dog, Ariel, gardening, and swimming.
